Why Seriously Fun Yoga?

Ever since I’ve started practising Rocket Yoga, or Progressive Ashtanga (Vinyasa) Yoga, as it’s also known, I have been in awe with the equally intelligent and playful sequencing of this practice. The fast paced buddy of Ashtanga Yoga that was created by Larry Schulz in sunny California and brought to the rest of the world by his students and his students’ students is what I would call character building. It’s a strong physical practice, fast paced but incredibly fun to play around with. Because it’s less strict and much more adaptable to the individual than other styles of yoga (modifications and variations are always encouraged), it feels more approachable and inclusive to the student. Rocket has been my preferred style of yoga for some time now and ‘Seriously Fun Yoga’ is a nod to my teachers and Larry Schulz. It’s also a little reminder to not give too much of af about things that don’t matter (on the mat, a perfect alignment doesn’t earn you a star).

Strength & Flexibility

How to make a yoga teacher eyeroll right at you: tell them you’re not flexible enough. One of the biggest misconceptions about yoga is that the physical practice is all about flexibility. I strongly believe that you would want to find a balance between the two, strength and flexibility, in order to feel good and stay safe. I always build my classes with this principle in mind and offer variations and modifications to adjust to every body.

Rule # 1: have fun!

You just rolled out of pincha because you lost your balance. So what? Laugh about it and try again. This is probably the number one message I’ve taken away from my teacher.

When we practise in class, no one cares about how deep our backbends are or how long we can hold our inversions. Everyone is focusing on what they are doing in this very moment (so that they don’t place plant out of crow). Just enjoy the flow!
