Meet me

Personal: Meet Carina

Here’s a story that many of you will be familiar with: girl moves to big city, finishes her drama degree and can’t find a job in the theatre industry. Put off by the lack of connections she starts the next best job she can get and ends up looking for something to help her cope with the stress. Cue an affordable unlimited membership trial for the studio close to work. She goes to class at least once a day for the month and realises how much better she feels with this new habit in her life.

A year in, a fellow yogi tells her about this fantastic teacher in Camden Town. She obviously goes and tries her class and falls heads over heels in love with Rocket Yoga (not the teacher, silly! even though she’s the best).

Only 6 months later she finds herself in her room in Zone 3 London, packing a massive duffel bag (your girl still needs to learn how to travel light). Soon enough she’s getting soaked in monsoon ridden Goa where she’s doing a 200 hours Ashtanga vinyasa teacher training.

She gets back home and quickly starts teaching corporate classes whilst assisting her teacher whenever she can.

Fast forward another year and she’s done a Yin teacher training with Sampoorna Yoga and started her rocket teacher training journey with Leon London, David Kyle, the Good Life Yoga School and Rocketbeats.

My teachers

The yoga community has developed a tradition of sharing their wisdoms from teachers to students. As time goes by, lots of us become teachers who, in turn, share their knowledge with new students and so on. Even our mantras mention our teachers past and present. So it’s only fair to mention the people who inspire me the most. Special thanks go to

Imi Wiseman

for always inspiring me to try new things. And for letting me demo, assist and annoy her on a daily basis.

Alan Ellman

for making me want to live on my hands one day.

Laura McVicker

for being so precise, strong and incredibly kind.

Nicki Ratcliffe

for pushing me past my fear.

GLYS

for showing everyone how much of a vibe the rocket is.

David Kyle

for all the Larry anecdotes.

Further thanks go to Sudhir rishi from the Sampoorna School of Yoga for all the pranayama and philosophy lessons. Thank you to Alan Grier and Jonelle Lewis for introducing me to a strong and creative Mandala practice.

Our bodies are amazing

Despite being so much more than just a physical practice, we can’t deny that yoga as we know it from social media often has a physical element to it.
In most cases practising asanas will make us feel strong, powerful and happy. But there is times when it can also cause self doubt, when we don’t even try yoga because we’re ‘too fat’. I’m not an influencer and neither am I a therapist, but I am trying to be more ‘real’ on Social Media.
